The Ohio Northern Polar Bears celebrated two things this past weekend, Parent's Day and a great OAC opening win. Almost all of our players' parents were able to make the brief ceremony before the match. As each parent walked to center field with their daughter, their name was announced followed by these words from the coaching staff, "The Ohio Northern University Women’s Soccer coaching staff would like to give special thanks to all of you. You bring so much to our program and are our true supporters day in and day out. We know you make tremendous sacrifices and we truly appreciate everything you do for your daughters to allow them to accomplish their dreams, both on and off the field. Thank you so much for your continued support of ONU W Soccer as we strive for another OAC Championship and a berth in the NCAA National Tournament!" It was great to see all of our player's parents in attendance to support the team in the OAC opener.
Eight first half goals sealed the fate for the visitors from Muskingum College. Senior Jamie Eiben, Brecksville, OH, got the scoring off first with an unassisted goal just under 4 minutes into the match. Eiben then notched her second goal under two minutes later. Not to be outdone, fellow Senior Angie Pisut recorded her 2nd career hatrick, scoring three goals in the first twenty minutes of the match. Also scoring was Junior Tri Captain Chelsea Albert, Sophomore Kim McGowan, Sophomore Alyssa Merrick, Freshman Maddie White, and Freshman Alicia Palivoda.
"This was a fantastic was for the team to start in October. We took a tough on one the chin at home against Denison. That was a hard fought game to a very talented team, but a game we felt we could have just as easily won. The team's reaction and response to that game was great. They are very focused, determined, and hungry for what lies ahead in October and I'm excited to watch the girls play Capital and Mt. Union this week."
ONU is back in OAC action when they travel to Capital University on Wednesday at 4p. Thanks to all who were able to make our OAC opener. We appreciate your continued support of ONU Women's Soccer.
