Saints Stumble at ONU

Thomas More entered last Saturday's match with a perfect 7-0 record, but a battle between two undefeated teams in the region, Ohio Northern came out on top. Despite a rain delay and temperamental midwest weather the match began with both teams getting early looks at goal. The Saints looked dangerous with a couple of crossed balls in the box but Erin Waehner and the ONU back line stepped up with solid defense to keep Thomas More at bay. As the half wore on the Polar Bears gained control of the match and created several dangerous scoring opportunities but they were unable to find the back of the net. After the half, Northern continued to press the Saints back line and in the 61st minute Abbie Schauble stepped up to take one of 10 corners that were earned in the second half by the Polar Bears. Schauble's cross, found Sandra Thorarensen who sent the ball toward Kristina Klusek. Klusek was able to nod the ball toward the Saints keeper who, despite getting a touch, could not stop Sandy Plunkett from knocking in the game winner. With the win, the Polar Bears move to 5-0-3 on the season with one remaining non-conference game. This week ONU hosts regional rival Wittenberg on Wednesday as well as Mount Union this Saturday to open up OAC play.
