Northern Takes Down Mount St. Joseph

The Polar Bears took to the road last Saturday to match up against The College of Mount St. Joseph and came away with a dominating 5-0 win. It took only a couple of minutes for ONU to put one away as Lauren Brown would send a well timed ball into the path of Sandra Thorarensen. Thorarensen out muscled the MSJ defender to send her shot into the back of the net to get the scoring started for the Bears. Sandy Plunkett would add to the scoreline less than 10 minutes later to notch the score at 2-0 from a rebound after Kristina Klusek fired a shot at the MSJ goal. Lauren Brown finished off the scoring in the first half for ONU after a quick short corner was taken by Abbie Schauble. The third goal of the day would mark Brown's first goal of the year. Despite the Lions increase in physical intensity, the Polar Bears responded by tacking on two more goals in the second half. Kristina Klusek earned her fourth goal of the season in the 62nd minute after collecting and converting a loose ball on the edge of the penalty area. To cap off the afternoon, freshman Hannah Moloney capitalized on a mistake from a MSJ defender to place a cool finish in the back of the net and earn her first collegiate goal of her career. Overall, team defensive pressure and strong play from the Bears back line would limit the Lions to just a single shot on frame for the entire 90 minutes.

The tough non conference road continues as ONU travels to Denison to take on a much anticipated match up against the Big Red, Tuesday at 7p.
