The Polar Bears secured the second seed in the OAC tournament last weekend when they defeated the visiting Pioneers from Marietta College. With the win, ONU finished the regular season at 12-5-1 overall and 7-1-1 in conference.
Despite taking 11 shots in the first half, the Polar Bears were unable to find the back of the net. The score would remain at a stalemate up until the 53 minute when senior Natalie White would collect a rebound inside the box to score her third goal of the season. With the score notched at 1-0, the Polar Bears did not let up as they continued to pressure and hold the run of play in the Pioneer defensive end. With just over 20 minutes to go in the game, freshman Danielle Ho would head a crossed ball to classmate Sandy Plunkett who headed in her second goal of the season to finish the scoring at 2-0. In dominating fashion the Polar Bear defense allowed only 2 shots while the offense took a total of 23 shots and 14 corners. Sophomore keeper Erin Waehner started the match and earned one save while junior Kristen DeWees finished the match and also notched one save.
The Polar Bears will make their tournament debut Wednesday when they host #3 seed Capital at 2pm in the OAC Semifinals. Earlier in the season, ONU earned a come from behind 2-1 road win in a tough battle with the Crusaders. In other Semifinal action on Wednesday, #1 seed Otterbein will host #5 Wilmington. Winners of the semifinal matches will earn a spot in the conference final that will be held Nov. 6th at the highest remaining seeded team location.
